Pasadena Fire Department Getting Ladder Truck Back

PASADENA (CBS) — The Pasadena Fire Department will soon be closer to full strength when they put a four-person ladder truck back into service, which had been removed for budget cuts, according to Chief Dennis J. Downs.

The truck, which had been taken out of service for the first part of the fiscal year, will be returning to Fire Station 32 at 2424 E. Villa Street, Downs said. The move was expected to save the city $725,000.

A second truck will remain out of service, Downs said.

"After discussing several alternatives and scenarios with city management, fire administrative staff and labor groups, it was mutually agreed that the temporary closure of a truck company, which is also known as a "brown-out," would be the least detrimental to the public and freighters," Downs said.

"Fortunately, there was minimal service to the community. We thank our residences, businesses and fire personnel for being so supportive and patient during this process," Downs said.

Vacant management positions remain unfilled in an attempt to save $200,000 this fiscal year, Downs said.
