UCLA Campus Stabbing Victims Sues UC Regents
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A woman who was stabbed by a classmate at UCLA is suing her attacker and the University of California regents.
Katherine Rosen says school officials failed to warn students that 21-year-old Damon Thompson was potentially violent despite months of reports about his paranoid and threatening behavior.
Authorities say Thompson stabbed Rosen five times with a kitchen knife during a chemistry class in October of 2009. She spent 10 days in the hospital.
Thompson, who acknowledged the attack, was found not guilty by reason of insanity last month and sent to a mental hospital.
The suit, which was reported by the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, has a hearing set for next March in Santa Monica.
UCLA spokesman Phil Hampton says the school couldn't have predicted the attack and isn't liable.
