Veteran Political Consultant Joseph Cerrell Dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Political consultant Joseph Cerrell, who advised Democratic leaders including presidents, governors and senators over five decades, has died. He was 75.

Hal Dash, head of the public affairs firm Cerrell Associates, said Cerrell died Thursday at a Camarillo hospital following a bout with pneumonia.

Cerrell played prominent roles in the presidential campaigns of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Hubert H. Humphrey, Lloyd Bentsen, John Glenn and Al Gore.

In his mid 20s, he became president of the California Democratic Party. In the 1960s, he formed Cerrell Associates and was instrumental in the careers of numerous politicians.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lee, three children and seven grandchildren.
