1 Killed, Another Critically Injured In Fiery Crash

WEST LOS ANGELES (CBS) — One person was killed and another critically injured in a fiery single-vehicle crash in West Los Angeles Sunday, a city fire spokesperson said.

Firefighters rushed to Centinela Avenue at Pearl Street at 3:49 a.m., Los Angeles city fire spokesperson Brian Humphrey said.

"It appears the vehicle struck a tree or some other object, splitting it in two pieces, with one part of the vehicle fully ablaze," Humphrey said. "A teenage male was found lying in the street. It appears he was ejected from the vehicle."

Paramedics transported the boy to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, Humphrey added.

"Despite their (firefighters) quick response and swiftly tackling the flames, they discovered a second person within the charred half of the passenger side of the vehicle," Humphrey said.

That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The type and model of the charred vehicle was "barely distinguishable," according to Humphrey.
