Long Beach St. Shocks Iowa

ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands (AP) -- Greg Plater scored 18 points, T.J. Robinson contributed a double-double that included 15 rebounds and Long Beach State defeated Iowa 78-72 Monday in the Paradise Jam tournament.

Eugene Phelps added 16 points for the 49ers (3-2) while Robinson and Casper Ware each had 14.

The Hawkeyes (2-3) led for most of the first half and carried a 33-31 advantage into the intermission, but Larry Anderson's 3-pointer three seconds into the second half gave Long Beach State a lead it maintained for nearly six minutes.

That ended when Bryce Cartwright's layup gave the Hawkeyes a one-point lead, 45-44 with 14:10 left.

Robinson erased for that one-point deficit for good seven seconds later, scoring on a layup.

Cartwright led Iowa with 17 points, while Eric May added 15.

Long Beach State got all but four of its points from its starting lineup.
