Man, 88, Allegedly Shoots Wife To Death At Nursing Home

SEAL BEACH (AP) — Police say an 86-year-old woman was found shot to death in her bed at an Orange County nursing home, and her 88-year-old husband has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Seal Beach police Sgt. Steve Bowles says officers from several law enforcement agencies rushed to Country Villa Healthcare Center shortly after noon Sunday after a report of shots fired.

Bowles says that in the room they found Clara Laird dead of a single gunshot wound to the head, and found her husband Roy Charles Laird sitting in a chair with a revolver in his pocket.

He says Laird cooperated with police who arrested him, and he was booked into Seal Beach jail.

Laird says the couple had been married nearly 70 years.

Bowles could give no information on a motive.
