Group Of Robbers Wanted In Glendale Jewelry Store Heist

GLENDALE (CBS) — Police need the public's help to identify a group of men involved in a smash and grab robbery at the Glendale Jewelry Mart.

A group of six to eight men between the ages of 18 to 25 were caught on security video using hammers to smash glass cases to remove jewelry, Glendale police spokesman Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

A witness to the robbery, which happened Monday about 1 p.m. at 200 N. Brand Blvd., said one suspect was holding a handgun.

The value of the loss was not immediately disclosed.

Officers responding to the scene of the robbery detained a man and two women. The man was arrested on outstanding warrant unrelated to the robbery, Lorenz said, and the women were questioned and released, pending further investigation.

Two cars possibly used in the robbery were described as a late model, dark Dodge Charger with tinted windows and a burgundy four-door car.

Anyone with information on the case can call Glendale police at (818) 548-3987; or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
