Whittier Man Allegedly Tries To Run Over Woman Who Rejected Proposal

PICO RIVERA (CBS) — Authorities say a Whittier man had a violent reaction to a reply of "I don't" to his proposal.

Francisco Hernandez, 22, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after trying to run over a woman he proposed to at a Pico Rivera hamburger stand, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Hernandez proposed to his would-be fiancee at about 2:25 p.m. near the Burger Stop on Slauson Avenue. The woman did not accept, apparently enraging him so much he tried to run her over with his car, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Bob Smith said.

Initial reports indicate the car had the words, "Will you marry me?" painted on the back.

The woman was not struck by the car, which sustained two flattened tires during the incident, authorities said.

The car, along with Hernandez, was found about 4 p.m. in Whittier. Hernandez was arrested without further incident, Smith said.
