Documents May Prove Salary, Pension Abuses In Bell

BELL (AP) — Members of the police union for the scandal-plagued city of Bell plan to release documents they say show salary, pension and other abuses committed by police officials and others.

The Bell Police Officers Association has called a news conference for 11 a.m. Thursday at police headquarters in the modest, working-class Los Angeles suburb.

Bell has become the target of local, state and federal investigations since it was revealed their officials were being paid huge salaries and pensions.

The mayor, vice mayor and a city councilman are facing a recall election. They and other current and former officials also have been charged with misappropriating $5.5 million in public funds.
