Bicyclist Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash By Suspected Drunk Driver

AGOURA HILLS (CBS) — Witnesses helped authorities track down a hit-and-run driver who killed a 44-year-old bicyclist in Agoura Hills.

A woman was reportedly driving east on Agoura Road Saturday afternoon in a 2002 Mercedes-Benz when she struck James Laing, 46, of West Hills, who was on a bicycle, riding in the same direction.

Laing died at the scene, just east of Agoura Hills city limits and several hundred feet from the driveway to the Malibu-Lost Hills sheriff's station.

California Highway Patrol officials say the motorist drove away from the scene, but was followed by witnesses, who told authorities she stopped in a nearby parking lot.

The driver was detained by sheriff's deputies until CHP officers arrived. The woman, originally identified as S.D. Whitmansegal, 44, of Woodland Hills, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, hit and run and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The Los Angeles County jail system did not list anyone by that name, but did report a woman named Stephanie Segal, 44, was being held on felony charges after CHP officers arrested her at the crash scene Saturday night.

Segal is being held on $250,000 bail, according to jail records.
