Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the gunman shot and killed by Santa Monica police after he wounded his wife in a parking lot behind a fast-food restaurant.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office tells City News Service that 33-year-old James Stephen Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene Friday evening.

Officers responding to calls about a suspect fleeing from a reported shooting at an Arby's restaurant found the gunman a few blocks away. Sgt. Richard Lewis says officers shot the man after he opened fire on them.

The woman underwent surgery at a hospital. Details of her condition were unavailable Saturday.
