Funeral Set For State Senator Jenny Oropeza

LONG BEACH (AP) — Funeral services will be held next week for state Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who died Wednesday after a long illness.

Oropeza's office says services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress. The public is welcome to attend.

The 53-year-old lawmaker died at a Long Beach hospital of complications from a blood clot that was found in her abdomen in May.

Oropeza, a Democrat from Long Beach, was known for championing health and environmental causes, including unsuccessful legislation that sought to ban smoking at state parks and beaches.

She had missed most of the current Senate session because of illness.
