Rabid Bat Found In San Juan Capistrano
SANTA ANA (AP) — Orange County health officials are warning that a rabid bat has been found in San Juan Capistrano.
People are urged to call the county Health Care Agency if they had contact with a bat on Wednesday before 4:30 p.m. near Village and Marina roads, so a nurse can evaluate their risk of rabies.
The agency also says parents should ask their children if they encountered a bat while walking home from school or from bus stops.
Rabies usually is contracted from the bite of an infected animal. It's nearly always fatal without treatment.
