Pedestrian Struck On 110 Freeway, Traffic Backed Up For Miles

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A pedestrian was struck and injured Friday evening on the 110 Freeway causing a major traffic jam that closed down several lanes for hours.

According to authorities, the victim was transported to an area hospital with "major injuries."

The victim was reportedly struck by a vehicle on the southbound lanes near El Segundo Boulevard in South Los Angeles, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

The accident occured just before 8:30 p.m.

According to the CHP, several traffic accidents have occured in the aftermath of the ensuing traffic jam.

The CHP has closed down the #2, 3 and 4 lanes until at least 10 p.m., said Posada.

A SigAlert was also declared.
