Accused Nude Burglar Officially Charged In Westminster

WESTMINSTER (CBS) — A man accused of being the so-called nude burglar was charged Friday with breaking into a neighbor's home last week.

Edgar Antonio Lucha, 23, of Westminster, allegedly used a ladder from a shed about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 25 to get through a second-floor bedroom of a home in the 6000 block of Shawnee Road, according to Westminster police.

Lucha is a parolee.

Once he got inside, Lucha went downstairs and took off his shoes in the laundry room, Deputy District Attorney Joel Stone said. Then he went into the bedroom of a 10-year-old boy and used tape to hold down a light-switch in the off position, Stone added.

Lucha then took off his clothes and hid under the bed, Stone said.

The boy was not in his bed that night because he was restless and had gone to his father's room to sleep. When the boy finally drifted off,  his father went to the boy's room to sleep, Stone said.

The father felt something under the bed, so he got up to turn on the light, Stone said. When he got the tape off and switched on the light he reportedly saw Lucha under the bed nude.

Lucha profusely apologized and claimed he was high on drugs as he struggled to put his clothes on and flee the house, according to Westminster police.

Lucha stole a Rolex watch from the house, Stone said.

Lucha was arrested Wednesday at a drug rehabilitation center in Compton, where he stayed under the name of Hector, Stone said.

Lucha was living in a sober-living facility two doors from the home he broke into, Stone said.

Lucha is on parole for a 2008 conviction for possessing a weapon for the benefit of a gang, according to prosecutors.

Westminster police arrested Lucha on suspicion of attempted lewd acts on a child because they suspected he intended to molest the boy in the house.

Stone did not file the charges, but will be prosecuting the case, he said.
