Crews Knock Down 10-Acre Fire In Yorba Linda

YORBA LINDA (CBS) — A hand crew Sunday was mopping up the remains of a brush fire that scorched 10 acres in Yorba Linda and left one firefighter with a minor injury.

The fire, which was reported at 7:51 p.m. Saturday, broke out in the 3700 block of Quarter Horse Drive near Fairmont Boulevard and Chino Hills State Park, Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority said. Crews had the blaze under control by midnight.

For the first time in the county, a pilot using night vision goggles made night water drops, he said. The helicopter made 12 drops totaling 4,300 gallons of water, McKeown said.

Such procedures have been in effect in Los Angeles for several years, but are considered experimental by some fire agencies.

McKeown said Sunday's clean-up crew should have their work completed by this evening.
