Alleged O.C. Rapist Being Extradited From Austria

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A man accused of raping three women in Orange and San Diego counties is being extradited to Orange County from Austria to face charges.

The Orange County district attorney's office says Ali Achekzai, an Afghan national, is accused of rapes in Laguna Beach, Tustin and San Diego in 2002 and 2004.

Authorities say Achekzai fled the country after the alleged attacks, moving to Canada and later Austria, where he was accused of rape in 2009. Prosecutors say DNA from the Austrian case matched samples taken in the Tustin and San Diego rape cases.

Achekzai was arrested Jan. 26 in Austria.

He's expected to arrive Friday night in Orange County. He's Achekzai faces life in prison if convicted.
