'Fit Shoes' Promise To Put You In Shape

LOS ANGELES - Help you lose weight? Tone muscles? Improve posture? Tighten the behind?

Well what's behind these claims? Let's call them all 'Fit shoes.' MBT, Reebok and Sketchers all in on the action.

Sketchers calls them Fitness footwear – they say you can shape-up without ever stepping foot in a gym.

They have a whole line of shape-ups, from walking shoes to shoes to wear to work, to boots made for walking.

A kinetic wedge from heel to toe simulates walking on sand and works muscles harder so you burn more calories. Sketchers says clinical studies back up their claims – at least 45 minutes a day in these shoes and you'll get a better backside, muscle tone and better posture.

Orthopedic Surgeon, Hamid Mir of Saint Vincent Hospital, thinks the claims may be a bit overstated but does say, if you wear these shoes you need to be careful.

"I can see some potential problems. With the in sole being high, a person may lose balance as their walking especially on uneven surfaces and may sprain their ankle," Dr. Mir said.
