Though most of the rankings have already been solidified for this stop of the tour, the Standup World Series long distance race happens this weekend. This is definitely the season if getting the living crap scared out of you is your thing. Another in a line of very cool DIY-styled haunted attractions is now situated in Tustin. Stretching some 30-minutes from beginning to end, Gluttire University is the backdrop for a sinister, interactive experience that follows "Paula" in a sort of horror flick come-to-life. Carefully creepy and no doubt packed with some eerie visuals, walking in is challenging enough. Making it out is something else.

For Southern California especially, the Day of the Dead is a sort of pseudo holiday with roots stretching back to the Aztecs. Celebrating the culture of commemorating the dead among the living, artists including Jim Kohatsu, Arnold Anthony Orosco, Kimm Barnes, and Catherine Chastain are among the dozen or so featured contributors with work ranging from neon to sculpture. Vibrant, colorful, beautifully morbid, the exhibition at Las Lagunas is a comprehensive look at familiar imagery with a nod to the history behind it's genesis.

Every weekend, volunteers craft informative, educational activities that encourage kids and parents to work together and play the role of a scientist. Learning a respect for the environment through entertaining efforts, ExplorOcean does a great job of making learning a hands-on event. All this is free. Not a bad way to spend a weekend. ExplorOcean is ongoing and open from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays and 12pm to 3pm on Sundays.
