With Turkey Day a week away, the time is now to go out and play. After all, getting out of the house will help you forget about all of the fun of cooking for a whole bunch of people on November 24th, including your annoying brother-in-law that wants to do nothing but talk to you about his fantasy football team for two hours. Thankfully, we were able to scrounge up a list of activities to make gearing up for Thanksgiving a little less stressful.

The 1960s were all about social change, free speech, and a push for peace. To be sure, these causes were the inspiration for the local art movement back in the day, particularly within the medium of assemblage art, where found objects and random junk was transformed into provocative sculptures that reflected the mood of society. This special forum brings several leading players from this important era of artistic expression together for an enlightening discussion on what their work serves as an analogy for the past as well as a voice for the present day. It should be quite the scene, man.

MUZEO

Anaheim, CA 92805
(714) 956-8936

If you’re not familiar with the term “steampunk,” think 19th century industrial revolution meets 20th century science fiction and technology. We would say it’s a bit like the old TV show “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.,” but you probably never watched one episode. Anyway, the result of this fusion is pure, 100% awesomeness. So it’s only fitting that OC’s hippest museum would be the setting for this exhibition that fuses the innovation of the past with the whimsy of the future.

Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Admission: $13.00 for adults, $9.00 for children

What would Southern California be without the surfing scene and surf culture? We’re guessing a little less colorful. One of the ways that oceanic activity has captured the SoCal spirit is through the streamlined beauty of the surfboard, as witnessed by this cool exhibit cobbled together by legendary wave rider Nathan Pratt. Come and see the evolution of the surfboard through the eyes of the artists and fearless souls that created and rode these magical rides.

For those of us who fell asleep in World Geography class, the Rhine references the river that weaves its way through the center of Europe. Now that you know where it is, prepare to take a metaphorical seat by its slowly rushing waters, as the San Bernadino Symphony Orchestra performs pieces by classical music masters whose works seem to rise up from its banks. We’re talking composers like Rossini, Schuman, and Chopin. It is the perfect way to get your classical music fix in before the mad holiday rush.
