As the acclaimed show, War Horse, comes to Orange County, what better time to dine at the upscale and classically beautiful Scott’s Restaurant & Bar? It’s walking distance from Segerstrom Center for the Arts and makes for a delightful way to kick off the evening. Scott’s is celebrating 24 years in OC, and is still keeping it fresh with Executive Chef Mike Doctulero using local organic farmers and sustainable fisheries. Scott’s offers a great Happy Hour from 3 to 7 p.m. every day — perfect for pre-theatre dining. You’ll enjoy half-off small plates and half-off specialty cocktails, $5 wine, and $3 and $4 craft beer. Did you know there’s also a Late Night Happy Hour, Thursday through Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight, to partake in after the show? Look for Chef Mike when you’re there — he truly loves what he does, is devoted to the customer and is committed to ensuring you enjoy the cuisine.

You may not believe your eyes. War Horse is the winner of five 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Play, and it has been seen by more than two million people worldwide. Time Magazine dubbed it “a landmark theater event.” The show — a tale of courage, loyalty and friendship — is on stage at Segerstrom Center for the Arts through Feb. 3. If you haven’t heard about it, it features phenomenal life-sized puppets that bring breathing, galloping, charging horses onto the stage. Some insider facts include: it took a full nine months to complete just one horse puppet; all puppets were painstakingly made by hand and the show includes 18 puppets (including horses Joey and Topthorn), as well as a goose, two swallows and two crows. Also, the tank is the largest piece of scenery in the show – six people are needed to operate it, and it, too, is considered a puppet. Tickets start at $20.
