Turkey Trot Races In L.A. & O.C.

The holidays are in full swing, which means parties, dinners, and get-togethers will serve up the best foods of the season. Rather than waiting until the new year to shed the holiday weight, why not go outside and get active with one of the many Turkey Trot Races taking place this month in Los Angeles and Orange County? Here are the best events of the season, many of which have a charitable component. What a great way to get fit for a cause!

This year’s downtown turkey trot takes place Thanksgiving morning and features a 5k and 10k run through the historic streets of Los Angeles. Once completed, participants are encouraged to celebrate at City Hall/Grand Park for a post-event festival featuring a giant turkey, a costume contest, finisher medals, and more. Turkey Trot Los Angeles has also partnered with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help give back. Participants are encouraged to bring cans of food or other non-perishable items to ensure that no one goes hungry this season. In addition to the run, there is also a ‘widdle wobble’ for the little ones. Race registration for the day opens at 7am with the 5k starting at 8am and the 10k starting at 8:30am. The awards are given out at 10am and the entire event ends at 12 noon where you’re encouraged to go home and nap before eating your Thanksgiving dinner! Activities take place at 1st and Spring Streets between Grand Park and City Hall and you can find parking for anywhere between $10 to $!5 per vehicle.

Bring the entire family out to the First Annual Turkey Trot which will include food, live music, games and more. The 5k and 10k races take runners through Griffith Park and around the L.A. Zoo, Autry Museum, and Golf Course for a great scenic run. Children 5 and older can participate in the Kids 1K Turkey Dash through the park and those between 2 and 5 can participate in the free 200 meter Turkey Toddle. Racers must register and pick up their packet on November 15th at the Runners Circle in Los Angeles to be eligible to participate. Participants will receive t-shirts and swag bags as well for participating At the end of the race events, medals/trophies will be awarded to the top finishers.

Tip:
Donate a frozen turkey or tofurkey and registered racers will receive a $20 discount towards an additional registration. All donations will go to the L.A. Regional Food Bank to help those in need.

Experienced and novice runners are invited to participate in Burbank’s YMCA Annual Turkey Trot through Downtown Burbank. This year’s 5k and 10k courses have been improved to meet USA Track & Field standards and the top male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K will receive a $250 cash award. Children 7 and under can participate in the Kiddie 1k fun run as well. Proceeds from this year’s Turkey Trot will benefit the Burbank Community YMCA membership assistance program.

Tip:
Free parking is available at the Burbank Town Center mall across from the YMCA at the corner of Third and Magnolia.

Take a scenic run through the El Medio Bluffs neighborhood with spectacular panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean in this year’s Pacific Palisades Turkey Trot. Families are invited to come out for some pre-turkey exercise with a post-race celebration featuring food, live music, a costume contest, and more. This year’s charitable partners include the Los Angeles Food Bank and Hearts With Hope. To give back, participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable canned and boxed food items to donate.

Tip:
Limited free parking is available at the high school and racers are encouraged to carpool.

Celebrating it’s 36th year, the Dana Point Turkey Trot will offer Southern California a number of ways to get active this Thanksgiving season. As the sixth largest turkey trot in the country, more than 16,000 participants will have the opportunity to participate in 5 and 10K runs, a Kids’ Gobble Wobble and a two-day health and fitness expo. The course includes scenic view os the beach, cliffs, and coves of Dana Point Harbor and Doheny State Beach. Cash prizes and medals will be awarded to the top finishers at the end of the race as well. Additionally, the Dana Point Turkey Trot will donate a portion of proceeds to the local charities they have partnered with including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley.

Tip:
Parking is available at Dana Point Harbor Drive at the Embarcadero, along Golden Lantern north of the Dana Marina Plaza, along Del Prado or Pacific Coast Highway, or at Doheny State Beach ($15 per vehicle).

This year’s Turkey Trot at Orange Coast College strives to raise awareness and support for the Orange County Food Bank. Families are invited to participate in a closed course that begins and ends at the college and select finishers will receive a pie, courtesy of Marie Callender’s. Other events include a kids run which starts at 7:45am and consists of a 1k Fun Run! The 5k run for adults starts at 8am.

This year’s 3rd annual Causelife Turkey Trot race takes place on Thanksgiving Day and will help benefit the nearly 1 billion people in the world who don’t have access to clean water. The goal of atleast 1,500 walkers/runners would provide clean water to 3,000 people. Race for a cause this year and make a difference!

Join 6,000+ runners in the 11th annual Turkey Trot featuring 5 and 10 K runs and a Kids 1/2 mile WingDing. This year’s race will benefit the 501c3 nonprofit Community ACtion Team which puts on a number of activities and events including the monthly 30-minute Beach Cleanup, Operation Santa Paws, and Miss Long Beach. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and over 600 pies will be given away at the finish line.
