The political thriller to end all political thrillers, Madame Secretary follows Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (played by Téa Leoni) as she drives international diplomacy, battles office politics and circumvents protocol while negotiating global and domestic issues; at the White House and at home.

Why you should watch: When was the last time you saw the versatile Téa Leoni? She could’ve easily starred in a sitcom or drama and just that alone should be enough to draw you in.  If that’s not enough, the allure of a mature political thriller that deals with real-world problems should offer more twists and drama than imaginable.

Inspired by a true story, Scorpion is a high-octane drama about eccentric genius Walter O’Brien and his team of brilliant socially awkward misfits who comprise the last line of defense against complex, high-tech threats of the modern age. At last, these nerdy masterminds have found the perfect job: a place where they can apply their exceptional brainpower to solve the nation’s crises, while also helping each other learn how to fit in.

Why you should watch: A show about how nerds are actually saving us all from technological threats sounds like the perfect story of the underdogs. It also helps that the series is produced by Justin Lin, “The Fast and the Furious” franchise director and the pilot is directed by him too.

This sitcom is a multi-camera comedy about a loud, sports-crazed Boston family whose somewhat athletically-challenged, gay son Ronny is chosen by his father to be his assistant high school basketball coach, much to the surprise of his more qualified siblings.  Touched by his father’s offer, Ronny embarks on a completely different future – and he can be sure that his loving, tight-knit family is going to have a very vocal opinion about it.

Why you should watch: The portrait of a sports-crazed family is one that many families can understand, whether it be baseball, football, soccer or basketball. Why not take a break from your own family and watch someone else’s hilarious situations?
