If you’ve ever thrown a party (that kegger in high school doesn’t count), you know that invitations are your first opportunity to set the tone for your event and impress your guests with your hosting savvy.

With the ease and proliferation of electronic invitations (i.e. Evite, Paperless Post, Pingg…), traditional printed invitations seem to be disappearing. But admit it – who doesn’t get excited when they open their mailbox and find a lovely, weighty personalized envelope that isn’t labeled “Exciting Offer Enclosed?” There is simply no better, more beautiful, or elegant way to let your guests know that your event – be it a small casual dinner, tea for girlfriends, or massive blowout – will be special.

To help you in your pursuit for the perfect invitation to reflect your fabulous sensibility, here are some of our favorite places to buy invitations:

Sugar Paper

1749 Ensley Avenue
Los Angeles, CA
(310) 277-7804
More Info

Walking into Sugar Paper is like walking into a candy store. Glass jars filled with tantalizing accessories, pens, paper goods and note packages delectably wrapped in clear foil and tied with ribbon fill front table displays. And wait till you see their fabulously chic letterpress designs. Letterpress invitations can get very pricey, but for those on a budget, they also do flat printing and have unique pre-packaged invitation options as well. Unfortunately, parking is a nightmare, but there is a lot behind the building, and on the street, you just might need to circle the block a few times. Worst-case scenario, there is a parking garage two blocks west.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Don’t go during lunch. It’s next to a very popular bakery and you’ll never find a parking space.

Kot Design can do just about anything to help make your unique vision come to life. (You should have heard the description of the Plexiglas engraved invite, Thai silk wrapped invitation she told me about!) “Giving someone something that’s completely custom” and creating invitations that are “unique to fit each and everyone of my clients.” What’s even better? They come to you. That’s right. No parking. No packing up linen samples and color swatches and dragging them to the store. Kot design does not have a storefront and works by appointment only.

More Info

In addition to designing gorgeous and uber chic invitations, Andria Sato, the owner of Lilikoi, delivers intimate service. Even better – her studio is eco-friendly! Everything from the inks (vegetable oil based), the odorless solvent and the press run by hand help make this studio “sustainable.” Additionally, she mainly uses cotton paper made from reclaimed fabric (and made in the US) and orders are wrapped in 100% cotton, reusable packaging. Andria can provide a wide variety of invitation printing services from digital to letterpress, but it’s the letterpress invitations that she prints one at a time on her on-site hand-run letterpress that are truly extraordinary. Like Kot Design, Lilikoi does not have a storefront, she’ll come to you, and her service is by appointment only.

Copper Willow Paper Studio

8530-B Washington Boulevard
Culver City, CA 90232
(310) 836-6004
info@copperwillow.com

A wonderful little gem in Culver City where you can find hip and unique invitation designs. An added bonus: although Jill Velez and Leora Mauck, the co-owners, have three letterpress machines in house, two of which are vintage 1950’s, they also offer other printing options including digital, off-set and engraved. We also love that all of their paper has recycled content or is FSC certified. They even have a wide variety of recycled and ‘plantable’ papers – the latest trend in invitation chic. So now, you can be gracious, elegant – AND eco-friendly. How great is that?!
