Los Angeles is one big melting pot with distinct style and flair. When it comes to putting your personal stamp on your own home it is also fun to turn to local neighborhood influences. L.A. interior designers and decorators love to play up the glamour of Hollywood, accent with the tones and vibes of the Pacific Ocean and show off Pasadena's unique treasures. Interior designer Joanne Dossick of J. Dossick Designs offers trade tips on helping people freshen up their homes.

The glamour of Hollywood in the 1950s is about luxury at its best. Young starlets like Elizabeth Taylor and Cyd Charisse entertained the show biz industry quite a bit in elegantly-decorated living rooms. Today, it is easy to decorate with the influences of Hollywood. For this look, Dossick says to accent the room with fabrics that are shiny – how else can you make the room shine like a star? Otherwise, key pieces of furniture that make this look complete are a chaise flanked by an end table with a geometric base and a mirrored console, which can be perfect to set up your bar. A fabulous crystal chandelier is a beautiful centerpiece and a plush white area rug brings the whole look together.

The serenity of the beach plays a big part in many L.A. lifestyles. For a beachy cottage feel, begin by selecting paint colors in blues, whites and sand tones. Dossick shops at local flea markets, specifically seeking distressed furniture pieces. She likes slouchy, but not sloppy, slip-covered sofas and oversized chairs in natural fabrics and materials. Accent your great room, bedroom or living room with a sisal area rug and glass apothecary jars filled with sand and shells. Then, sit back, relax and enjoy the cozy feeling of your new beach chalet.

Known for more than the Rose Bowl, Pasadena's rich culture and historical estates have been thriving since the 1880s. To bring the treasured style of Pasadena to life, Dossick recommends finding inspiration in your grandmother's attic. Set up your room with a traditional Windsor chair along with additional furniture with hints of mahogany. Bring light into the room with an English antique light fixture and add molding to the ceilings to provide an easy design element. Dossick loves fresh flowers in the home and says to always keep a fresh vase of roses on display.
