It’s summertime and what better way to embrace it than packing up your lawn chairs and blankets and grabbing your favorite people to enjoy some movies in the park? These Orange County destinations offer everything from comedies to action thrillers and these films are good for the whole family.

It’s that time of the year to bring out the lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening under the stars with the kick-off of the Movies in the Park series by the city of Dana Point. The event will kick-off the series with the Disney classic “Mary Poppins.” All refreshments are available for purchase and the event is free, along with the popcorn. Local elementary school and non-profit organizations benefit from the proceeds of the snack bar sales. So come out and not only enjoy a movie under the stars, but support a good cause.

Take a break at the end of July to watch some classic films and local bands in Los Alamitos. This entertainment is free and appropriate for the entire family. Musical entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., when a raffle will take place. Activities for children and refreshments will be available throughout the night. Following the musical entertainment will be a film. The films planned are “Grease,” “Finding Nemo” and “The Avengers.”

The Division of Republic Services of Placentia Disposal presents this year’s summer outdoor movie series. This free event is open and enjoyable for the whole family. So bring your lawn chair or blankets to enjoy the films being shown. The lineup includes “The Lorax,” “The Lion King,” “Wreck It Ralph,” “Hotel Transylvania,” “Madagascar 3,” “Paranorman” and “Escape from Planet Earth.”

Kicking off the start of the National Night Out series on Aug. 6, the Recreation Center will host the first movie night featuring “Shrek” beginning at 5 p.m. In order to get good seats, you will need to go early to reserve your spot. Food and games will be available prior to the showing of the films and the events are free. Other movies planned to be shown are “Adventures of Tin Tin” at Harper Park and “Goonies” at Cox Park. This event is free and open to all ages.
