DEFEND YOUR RIDE: Katie At Kitson

Q: This is a fine looking Volvo. What's its main use?

A: Getting around L.A. to meet my clients and friends.

Q: Clients? What kind of business do you have?

A: I have a public relations agency called KBPR, Inc.

Q: Who do you represent?

A: I represent CCR Brand, which makes the OneZ I'm wearing that's sold exclusively at Kitson in Los Angeles.

Q: Wait, that's the OneZ?

A: Yes. Actually, I'm wearing the same OneZ that Rihanna wears on her tour. I also represent a jewelery company called Pyrrha, which has a store here on 3rd St., but they are based out of Vancouver. And they have their studio there where they hand-make all of the jewelry.

Q: That's pretty cool. Do you get a lot of free stuff?

A: Um, no. But I do enjoy wearing their jewelry, so I'm a frequent shopper at their store. And my third client is Laura Werlin who is a cheese expert. She's a James Beard award winner and an author of five books on cheese, two on grilled cheese.

Q: That's awesome. And are you visiting one of your clients right now?

A: Kitson is selling the OneZ, so we've been working very closely with them since June when we rolled out the line in the four Kitson stores in L.A. We've just launched our fall and winter collections with them.

Q: So when you're going from client to client, what's your favorite part about driving in L.A.?

A: I previously had a very, very long commute. The car has a fantastic stereo system. It made my commute much more friendly. You know, of course, L.A. freeways have a tendency to bog up. Even now when I'm driving across town, or if I'm on the freeway, I enjoy getting in my car and listening to some music. It's a very comfortable car to drive in.

Q: So if you had to give your car one song as its theme song, what would it be?

A: Oh boy, one theme song. Well, it depends. I do a lot of driving at night, so maybe the song would be "Midnight Rider" by the Allman Brothers. It's a great song. Or, one of my all-time favorites, "PYT" by Michael Jackson. That's a good tune for dancing in the car.

Q: Ah, I see, so you're a car dancer?

A: I car dance a lot. I car sing as well!

Q: Is there anything else we should know about your Volvo S40?

A. I really love the car. I've been really happy since the day I got it. It's super fun to drive; it's the first car I've ever picked out and owned, so it's kind of like a grown up thing, not a car I was just given. And I love my sun roof because California has the best weather, hands down, of any other place in the country. And being able to enjoy the California sunshine through the sunroof is such a treat.
