Orange County is home to some of the greatest culture and art anywhere in the world. With such a rich background, OC attracts many speakers and lectures. These lectures celebrate music, literature, fine art and illustrations and there is sure to be a topic that will interest adults and kiddos alike.

Sinatra: The Early Years (Part 1 of 2)

On July 24, journey back to the years when Frank Sinatra started making his mark on the world of entertainment. Hosted by music expert Larry Maurer, guests will learn about Sinatra's personal and professional life story through a series of video clips and verbal dialogue. Additionally, the lecture will discuss how Sinatra influenced renowned singers including Bing Crosby and Al Jolson. Museum members can attend this special event for $7 and non-members for $10. If you already paid to enter the museum, the lecture only costs $5.

Incorporate international culture into your summer at this lecture and book signing event that will explore the novel "Mei Ling in China City," written by author Icy Smith and illustrated by Gayle Garner Roski. The event will be held on August 24 from 1:30pm until 2:30pm, and attendees will learn more about cross-cultural relationships experienced by Japanese, Chinese and Americans during World War II in this novel based on true life events. The event is free for museum members and free if you paid to enter the museum. If you would like to just pop in for the lecture, the entrance fee is $8.

Bring the kids to learn more about the highly regarded children's novel "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and meet John Archambault, one of the authors, on July 26 at 1:30pm until 2:30pm Consisting of several fun rhymes to assist with learning the alphabet and vibrant, colorful pictures, parents can bond with little ones while helping them learn. John Archambault will showcase stories and music and will be available for a book signing after his presentation. Tickets are free for museum members and also free for those who paid for museum admission. Non-members can attend for $8.

Examine the work of multi-talented artist John Altoon on July 31 from 7pm to 8pm Known primarily as a painter, Altoon was also an accomplished illustrator. His work can be seen in various magazines and album covers. Led by Jennifer King, who is a Princeton graduate with a Ph.D in history, guests are sure to leave with knowledge and inspiration. Museum members can attend for free and non-members can sit in the lecture with paid museum admission.

"Chuck Jones: Merrie Harmonies" will be held on August 2 from 1:30pm until 3:30pm and is sure to be an entertaining outing for the entire family. Musical accompaniment will be offered by The Orange County Flute Association while animations from popular cartoons such as "Bugs and Daffy," "Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl" and "High Note" by celebrated artist Chuck Jones will be presented. For $7, museum members can attend, and $10 for non-members. Admission is only $5 if you've already paid to enter the museum.
