Local museum calendars are busy this spring and summer with plans to introduce new exhibits and artwork. Each exhibit appeals to a wide audience and will give museum visitors the special occasion to take in the wonder of history, science and art. Orange County museums have curated everything from the mysteries behind Sherlock Holmes, how an astronaut lives in space,  to the next generation of Chinese and American artists. Take a look at the best five new exhibits coming to Orange County.

Museum enthusiasts of all ages will be astounded by the upcoming International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes as they trail the life of Sherlock Holmes and his literary creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Guests will delve into mystery, adventure crime, power of deduction and forensic science. This exhibit features original artifacts and manuscripts, investigative tools from then and now, original imagery of Victorian London from the Museum of London, and the opportunity to take a detective's notebook and gather clues found throughout the exhibit to help solve a crime. This is an interactive experience that kids and adults will certainly enjoy.

Blast off into Suited For Space hosted by the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum and provided by the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. Learn about how space exploration has played a pivotal role in American history and technology. Suited For Space showcases how astronauts were able to survive, live and work in the elements of space, all while being protected from extreme air temperatures, dangerous pressure, and space debris flying at high speeds. Come check out the Mark V spacesuit, created in 1967, as well as a replica of the Apollo suits worn by moon traveler Buzz Aldrin. Everyone is invited to take a photo with a space suit.

1968 The Exhibit is a major multimedia traveling exhibit that takes an in-depth exploration of “the year that changed the world.” Comprised of various interactive and hands-on experiences, 1968 encourages visitors to reflect on the Vietnam War, the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy and the riots at the Democratic National Convention. Pop culture elements are explored as well including Hair opening on Broadway, Laugh-In debuting as a number-one show, the scandalous love affair in Oscar-winner The Graduate and Johnny Cash's performance at Folsom Prison. This exhibit will take patrons to Richard Nixon's nomination acceptance speech and the Apollo 8 space capsule journey.

My Generation: Young Chinese Artists will take an extended look at the new artists emerging in Mainland China since 2000. All of the artists in this exhibition were born after 1976 which was the year that ended the Cultural Revolution. These children were born during China's one child only policy and have grown up in a country with a high-powered market economy. The art in this exhibit speaks positive, negative, cynicism, and new identities in the artistic language behind the artists' homeland. Museum guests will enjoy a variety of artwork such as paintings, video, installations, photography and artist collections.

After three years of successfully presenting the works of Masters of Fine Art students from Laguna College of Art + Design, the Laguna Art Museum continues to celebrate local emerging artists. The museum will debut the graduate MFA paintings and drawings in the Emerging Masters exhibit. These rising stars have the unique opportunity to introduce their works to an art-minded community.
