Best Upcoming Improv Comedy Shows In L.A. & O.C.

Los Angles is a hotbed for comedy. In addition to a few of the most famous comedy clubs in the world, such as The Comedy Store, this town is a breeding ground for comedic TV stars. Many of the comics that make their name in the clubs, end up with their own shows. However, there are few more entertaining shows than a good comedy performance. In L.A., on any given night, you can go out and see some of the best improv comedy. Make plans to see one of these shows, just for the laugh of it.

The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is one of Los Angeles' consistently great improv spots. With something happening every night, it's always a great spot to come by and get some laughs. This is more of a showplace, rather than a show recommendation, but when every event will leave you in stitches, it's nearly impossible to narrow it down to just one singular show. On August 15, stop hby to see Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer of Human Giant as they get together with friends to do whatever they want. The show, which is totally experimental, is performed every two weeks and each show's material changes from performance to performance. So, you'll never know what you're in store for.

Marlon Wayans got his start on In Living Color, along with his brothers, and is a one-man improv show. He also made a name for himself in the Scary Movie series, White Chicks, The Heat, among others. He also had his own WB sitcom, The Wayans Bros which changed the comedic world forever. Like his funny brothers, Wayans has a quick wit and is one comedic legend you wont want to miss seeing live. Seeing him in person at The Improv in Irvine will be a real treat.

Although this historic improve venue offers multiple shows throughout the week, the Thursday night "Cookin' With Gas" show is a must-see. Performing since 1992, it features the Groundlings Main Company, Alumni and the Sunday companies have played together for a long time, and this tradition just goes on and on. In case The Groundlings is a new name to you, this is the company that gave career birth to legends like Phil Hartman, Will Ferrell, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and many others. You may not see superstars on the night you go, but you'll likely see some future stars.

The renowned comedy club known as The Hollywood Improv opened in 1974 and has since featured a roster of top acts. Coming to the legendary club in mid-August is funnyman Jay Mohr. Guests will get to laugh their heads off as comedian, actor, radio host and best selling author Mohr will perform stand up comedy for a select few lucky guests. The 18 and over show begins at 8pm.

Comedy Get Town is not a stand up set. Rather, it's closer to a stand up festival. Slated for the famous Forum in Inglewood, it'll feature the established comedians George Lopez, Cedric The Entertainer, D.L. Hugley, Eddie Girffin and Charlie Murphy. In a venue famous for big rock & roll shows, this night will be dedicated to rocking back and forth with laughter. It'll be a night to see many of the comedians that have made names for themselves on TV, doing what got them there in the first place.The Forum, which was only recently refurbished, has not become the wonderful entertainment show place it used to be. If you want to laugh hard in a venue where the Los Angeles Lakers once won NBA championships, this will be the night to do so. A funny thing will happen -- not on the way to the forum -- but inside the building itself.
