Founded in 1950 as a prep arts and music school to University of Southern California, The Colburn School's free concert program features Rush Hour in Thayer Hall where beautiful classical music is performed by wind and brass rising star students of the Colburn Conservatory of Music, Music Academy and Community School. This fall, the program 'Autumn Winds' features a relaxing program of wind and brass music performed by conservatory students. The Colburn Conservatory of Music, Music Academy and Community School serves L.A. with the highest quality performing arts education, more than 300 free concerts each year and reaches out to 15,000 underserved children. Young musicians (6th-12th graders) from around L.A. come together in The Glendale Youth Orchestra (GYO), one of the city's lead youth orchestras. For 19 years and under the direction of Juilliard-trained conductor Brad Keimach, this spectacular youth group plays classical music as a resident company of the Alex Theatre. GYO's 26th Season Opening will include musical pieces - Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto (1st movement) with 17-year-old student from Alhambra High School Lavinia Chen on the violin, Mozart's Symphony No. 35 ("Haffner") and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 1. Since 1925, the Alex Theatre has served as a venue for the performing arts and an entertainment center.

Tchaikovsky's iconic score of "The Nutcracker Suite" creates a magical place audiences go to every year during the holiday season. This year, Moscow's Ballet company will perform the "Great Russian Nutcracker," the story of a young girl who finds love and war in the enchanted world of toys and Christmas. "The Nutcracker Suite" is Tchaikovsky's most popular composition and the namesake ballet is the most popular ballet attended by audiences. In the Moscow Ballet's interpretation, audiences will be stunned by the Dove of Peace featuring a 20-foot wingspan, whimsical 10-foot-tall silk puppets, detailed costumes featuring shimmery Swarovski crystals and beautiful dancers and ballerinas bringing Tchaikovsky's music to life. There are two performances on this day.

Itzhak Perlman, one of the most beloved violinists, classical musicians and conductors of the times, will be performing with his recital partner pianist Rohan De Silva at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Known to audiences for sharing the works of Vivaldi, Schumann, Beethoven and Ravel, Perlman's recital is a one-night engagement. Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed by Pritzker prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and is a venue like no other. The acoustics connect the audience to the music. Center stage sits among the audience in a "vineyard style" setting and adds a unique musical experience.

Headlining the Fred Kavli Theatre in January is the New West Symphony. Boris Brott, leading Canadian conductor and founding Music Director and Laureate Conductor of California's New West Symphony, will take his symphony and the audience through classical musical pieces including Rossini's "Overture to William Tell," Garson's viola variations on a theme of "Paganini," a New West Symphony commission world premiere featuring Lauren Chipman on the viola (principal violist for New West), Tchaikovsky's "Capriccio italien, Opus 45" and conclude with Repighi's "Pines of Rome." Chipman is a grad of USC and performs on an Italian Della Corte viola from 1850. She will be available at 7 p.m. for a pre-concert lecture.
