Everyone celebrates turkey day in their own way, especially Orange County residents. For most of us, it’s a day to gather family and friends around the dinner table to give thanks and enjoy a meal together. Sports enthusiasts are waiting for the football games to start while savvy shoppers plot their Black Friday strategies. For others, November 26 will be a day of athletic endeavors or volunteer efforts. The following list shows the various ways to celebrate and enjoy the holiday in the OC.

Held on Thanksgiving Day, the Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run raises funds for the Reeve-Irvine Research Center (RIRC) at the University of California, Irvine. The 10K timed run begins at 7:00 a.m. followed by the timed and untimed 5K runs at 8:00 a.m. Younger participants can do the 1K fun run at 9 a.m. The event also has plenty of volunteer opportunities, including booth setup and runner registration. Before sitting down with the family on Nov. 26, head over to Yorba Regional Park and cheer the runners on to victory.
Black Friday Frenzy At Irvine Spectrum Center

After enjoying a post-Thanksgiving dinner nap, round up the troops and head to the Irvine Spectrum Center. Stores throughout the center will open their doors for annual Black Friday sales as early as midnight. This shopping destinations also offers free activities, including rides on the giant wheel and carousel, from midnight to 8 a.m. The ice skating rink also will be open and free of charge during that time period. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, the Spectrum will present Disney Magical Holiday Lights every hour until closing time in the Edwards Courtyard near the movie theater.
Dana Point Turkey Trot/2-Day Health & Wellness Expo

Open to both novice and experienced runners, the 38th Annual Dana Point Turkey Trot kicks off at 7 a.m. on Nov. 26. Sanctioned by USA Track & Field (USATF), participants will enjoy the beautiful Dana Point Harbor and Doheny State Beach as a backdrop during their run. Beginning Nov. 25 and continuing through Thanksgiving Day, Dana Point also will host a two-day health & wellness expo featuring plenty of booths and displays. If you are near Dana Point on turkey day, make it a point to stop by and check out the festivities.
We Give Thanks

2015 marks the 29th year that We Give Thanks, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has provided Thanksgiving dinners to families in need. The event also serves as a gathering spot for those who don’t want to spend the holiday alone. Dinner will be served on Nov. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There also promises to be some great entertainment to go along with the meal. Pretend City Children’s Museum

Pretend City’s “Celebrate Thanksgiving!” program helps educate the younger members of the family about this holiday. Through storytelling, music and art programs, children will learn about being thankful and how to convey that to other family members. Pretend City’s event takes place on Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
