If there is such a thing as a comfort beverage, Irish coffee is it. It combines the warmth of coffee with the sweetness of Irish whiskey and whipped cream (just don't stir that cream into your coffee - let it sit). Few things in life can warm you like a good Irish coffee. Whether you're looking for a drink to have with dessert or just want a drink to warm you, try these places for Irish coffee.

Laguna Beach is one of the most charming towns in Orange County, and the restaurants are a big part of the reason why. Broadway is a great little place to visit whether you're going for dinner or just for a cocktail or two. The Irish coffee here is delicious. The coffee is strong, and the strength of the coffee is the perfect counter to the sweetness of the Irish whiskey (you have three to choose from). The coffee is then topped with whipped cream. This is the perfect drink to accompany your dessert or just to warm you up on a cool evening.

Dublin 4 takes pride in its Irish coffee - and rightly so. It's not so much a cocktail as it is a potable masterpiece. Some molasses is added to the Powers Irish Whiskey. That is topped with coffee that is brewed from freshly-ground espresso beans. The whole drink is topped with whipped cream that is made in-house every day. The cream sits atop the coffee, and the trick is to refrain from stirring the drink. That means you're sipping the hot coffee through the cold cream and you're left with some of that creamy goodness until the very last sip.

Quinn's is a great place to visit whether you're looking for a meal or just a few of your favorite Irish beverages. The dinner menu includes some great steak and seafood dishes that you can pair with Irish ales or whiskeys - or an Irish coffee. The trick to making a good Irish coffee is the little differences. Here the Irish coffee is made with Tullamore Dew and the glass is rimmed with Ghirardelli white chocolate to add that little something extra.

The Irish coffee at Haven is wonderfully crafted and amazingly tasty. It is made with Paddy Irish whiskey and coffee from Portola Coffee Lab, which is as good a coffee as you'll find in Orange County. The coffee is strong and complements the whiskey without overpowering it. Then it is topped with some whipped cream made on site and garnished with a sprig of mint. The cream sits on top of the coffee until the last sip - and make no mistake that you will drink it down to the last drop.

3011 Newport Blvd.
Newport Beach, CA 92663

The Irish coffee at Malarky's is proof that simplicity doesn't have to be ordinary. Made with coffee and Jameson, then topped with whipped cream, the drink is made on site and is the definition of simplicity. It's good enough to keep you coming back too. Besides, if Irish coffee is good, then Irish coffee in a pub in Newport Beach is even better.
