These Halloween events recognize that pets are part of the family too. With small dog races, costume contests, special prizes, tasty wines, German beer and an array of flavored doggie water including "beastly bacon," these Halloween celebrations are the perfect fit for you and your pet. Whether you are looking for a more up-scale endeavor or a laid-back, family friendly event, these Halloween parties are sure be a lot of fun.

Companions and their four-legged friends may enjoy a "yappy hour" celebration at The Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point. Pups will be able to drink several flavored waters such as: creepy chicken, ghoulish beef, beastly bacon, frightful cheese and ghostly liver, and dog owners may sip on a tasty, fun wine selection from Mutt Lynch Winery including unleashed chardonnay, chateau d'og cabernet sauvignon, merlot over and play dead. A dog costume contest will be held with prizes awarded for the scariest, funniest, most glamorous and best in show. The first place in each category will receive a dog bowl hand-painted by Debby Carman of Faux Paws Productions. The best-in-show winner will receive a "posh pouch" experience that includes a two-night stay at the resort along with special doggie amenities. The price is $10 per dog for the dog costume contest.

Howling Halloween offers trick-or-treating for children and dogs dressed in a Halloween costume as well as a costume contest  with prizes given away to winners in categories including best kid costume, best dog costume, best kid and dog costume combo, and best family costume. The proceeds from the costume contest will support the 3rd annual Pawliday Dog Adoption Event at Orange County Animal Care. Additionally, each entry in the costume contest will be put in a drawing for the opportunity to receive four tickets to Knott's Berry Farm, signed memorabilia from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim or a miniature golf package for four people from Boomers in Fountain Valley. There will even be a drawing for a dog bone pendant and chain with a retail value of $1,750. Admission and parking is free for this fun, family friendly event. Price: $5 costume contest entry.

Don't miss the Howling Hund Halloween Pawty that raises funds for the Paw It Forward Campaign. Small dog races (any dog weighing less than 25 pounds), trick-or-treating and a costume contest will be held at the event. Several prizes will be given away for the contests including a one-night stay at the Dog Spa Resort and Wellness Center, signed Angels memorabilia and free passes to the Improv comedy club. The Howling Hund Halloween Pawty will be held during the Old World Village's Oktoberfest, so if you want a cold brew while enjoying the festivities, you are in luck, because a tasty German beer selection will be available. Rain or shine, head to Indian Village Park this Oct. 27 for a family friendly event perfect for everyone. Bring your pups, even if they're not of the Dachshund variety, to enjoy a costume contest, Dachshund races and bobbing for wieners. Expect the typical carnival fare: hot dogs, chili, snacks and sodas as well as a raffle and take-home goodies. Pets must me leashed at all times, even the little ones. Proceeds go to the California Dachshund Rescue.
