A popular pastime from the 1950s included activities like drive-in theaters. As the time has passed, many have shut down, but there are still locations that are keeping it alive. But don't fret. If you want to enjoy a film in the outdoors, you can also enjoy these other Orange County locations that offer outdoor films either by the beach or park. Grab your friends and family and enjoy a film under the stars.

If you are looking for a drive-in theater that plays current films, take a look at Vineland in the City of Industry. The theater is open seven days a week and opens at 6pm on weekends and 6:30pm on weekdays. General admission for adults is $9, children are $3 and all children under five are free. More than 1,500 cars can be accommodated at this venue and the broadcast is done over FM radio. It is recommended to arrive early in order to get an ideal spot.

If you're looking for an outdoor movie experience in Orange County, the Newport Dunes Resort offers an experience in the summer to enjoy at its 110-acre resort located in Newport Beach at the entrance to the Back Bay Nature Preserve and the Newport Bay Conservancy. From June to August, it offers free movies on the beach on its new huge outdoor screen. Although admission is free for those who attend, parking has a fee. So grab a blanket, bring your lawn chairs and don't forget your jackets. In the past, classic films like "Home Alone," "E.T." and many more have been shown. Films usually start around dusk.

The 27.5-acre park is well equipped to provide the environment for a great outdoor movie theater experience. Along with movies in the park offered in the summer, many special events are also available including a summer concert series which is open to the public. The Great Park was established in 2003 with the mission to develop, operate and preserve for the benefit and enjoyment of all its visitors. The summer movie on the lawn series in the past has featured films like "Singin' in the Rain" and "Thunderstruck" in 2013. The scenery and environment adds to the outdoor movie experience and is one of the popular events to attend in Orange County.

Fountain Valley Movies In The Park

Grab your blankets, lawn chairs and bring your whole family for food, games and a family-friendly movie environment. Movies begin at dusk in various parks around the city of Fountain Valley. This year's movie nights will be held on August 5, 15, 22 and 29. In previous years, the city of Fountain Valley hosted the event at Harper Park and Cox Park. Games and booths were available for the community to enjoy until the start of the film.

One the special events offered by the city of Lake Forest is its free movie under the stars at Cherry Park. The family-friendly event is free for all of those who attend and will begin on June 20th. Bring your friends and family to enjoy the screening of films this year including "Wall-E," "The Little Mermaid," "The Wizard of Oz," "Space Jam" and "Despicable Me 2." Snacks are available at the event for a small fee. The movie series is expected to start at 7:30pm on selected dates.
