Spring is officially here. Kick off the start of the spring season with a variety of unique events and activities in and around Los Angeles. Head outdoors to Bookfest, get geared up for a fabulous golf season, and don't miss the dining specials at EatLBC, the Long Beach Restaurant Week. "Newsies," the acclaimed-Broadway success makes its way into town this week along with other great dramatic and musical performances.

Eat LBC, Long Beach's Restaurant Week, continues this week from today through March 28. Over 50 restaurants are participating in this year's event including Simmzy's, Open Sesame, Brix at The Shore, The Federal Bar, Berlin Bistro, Hof's Hut, Naples Rib Company, Russo's Ristorante and many, many more. Diners can enjoy three-course prix-fixe menus in a variety of price points (from $20-$40), as well as shared menu options for two. Wine, beer, and cocktail specials are available at most restaurants throughout the weeklong event. Diners can also win a trip to San Francisco by using the #EatLBC hashtag on social media.

Padua Playwrights, in association with PushPush Film & Theater,presents an 'Early Look' at "Charles' Story," written and directed by Murray Mednick. This final installment of Mednick's 8-play "Gary Plays" series follows unemployed actor Gary Bean, the everyman/anti-hero of the series, who undergoes drug rehab for an addiction he doesn't actually have. Two early looks of this production are offered this week, with the full production set to run in the 2015/2016 season.

The much-anticipated four-week run of Disney's "Newsies" begins this week at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. The musical features a Tony Award-winning score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the story follows Jack Kelly, a charismatic leader of a ragged band of newsies at the turn of the century in New York City, as he dreams of a better life away from the hardship of the streets of the city. The musical features songs from the film and original works imagined for the stage.

The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra presents Baroque Conversations illuminating a rich array of Baroque cello sonatas tonight at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Principal Cello Andrew Shulman, joined by LACO artists Trevor Handy and Patricia Mabee, hosts and performs works by Bach, Marcello, Sammartini, De Fesch and Vivaldi Shulman, including Sammartini's Sonata in G major; Continuo, Op. 4, No. 6; Marcello's Sonata in A minor for Cello and Continuo, Op. 2, No. 3; Vivaldi's Sonata in B-flat major for Cello and Continuo, RV 46; De Fesch's Sonata in A minor for Cello and Continuo, Op. 1b, No. 5; and Bach's Sonata in G major for Viola da Gamba and Continuo, BWV 1027. A complimentary wine reception for all ticket holders and a question/answer period with the audience that allows guests to get to know the LACO artists on a more personal level.

Kick off golf season at the 2015 L.A. Golf Show this weekend at the Long Beach Convention Center. The Grand Park Downtown Bookfest returns for its third year in a row giving book lovers access to local authors, publishers, and booksellers. Book related experiences including special readings from Matilda, storytelling by Renaissance Faire Storytellers, performances from the Cornerstone Theater Company, sing-alongs presented by the Zimmer Children's Museum, and book making activities including The Music Center's Artizen Lab, an online platform that gives creatives the opportunity to showcase their ideas among inspiring challenges, allow guests to truly interact with the text in a new level.

The Spring 2015 Season of the Los Angeles Ballet kicks off at Royce Hall this weekend with the premiere production of The Sleeping Beauty. Choreographed by Co-Artistic Directors Thordal Christensen and Colleen Neary after the original choreography by Marius Petipa, this production of Tchaikovsky's classic ballet requires much of its dancers technically. Audiences will marvel at the skill and precision of the work, performed twice this weekend.
