Los Angelenos can enjoy a high-energy week of dance festivals, film festivals, critically-acclaimed live theatrical debuts, and the hint of summer as we head into the month of May. A week-long happy hour is running throughout Los Angeles if you are in need of a post-work pick-me-up, and the whole family can enjoy the exciting world of Marvel Comics as comic books come to live in an epic good vs. evil showdown at the Forum this weekend.

For a look at the unique theatrical contributions from Asian and Asian-American producers and directors, head to the 31st annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, continuing this week through April 30 at a variety of venues throughout the Los Angeles area. Film screenings, seminars, panels, in-person guests appearances and award presentations will showcase the best in Asian cinema; the event is the largest of its kind in the region.

A six-week limited engagement of the critically-acclaimed "Motown the Musical" begins this week at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood sharing the true story of Motown founder Berry Gordy in his journey from featherweight boxer to music mogul (launching the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and many more). Julius Thomass III and Allison Semmes take the stage in the leading roles of Berry Gordy and Diana Ross; Nicholas Christopher and Jarran Muse play Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye respectively. Dance Camera West (DCW) presents the 14th Annual Dance Media Festival, a public event incorporating dance explored through film and live performance. Taking place across the Los Angeles area including venues in Beverly Hills, DTLA, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Westwood, the festival, which runs through May 5, will feature a variety of dance forms including modern, post modern, world, tap, ballet, and more. In addition to live dance, over 30 films will be screened during the festival.

Street Food Cinema, the celebrated outdoor movie and entertainment series, is back for the summer 2015 season. Kicking off the series tonight at Exposition Park is a screening of The Breakfast Club, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the iconic film. LA's favorite food trucks, including the likes of Kogi BBQ, The Grilled Cheese Truck, and Cousins Maine Lobster will join in the fun with live music entertainment taking the stage before the movie begins. The series runs Saturdays through October 31.

Don't miss "Immediate Family," a biting new comedy by Paul Oakley Stovall, directed by celebrated actress and director Phylicia Rashad. The play, opening at the Mark Taper Forum tonight, explores marriage and family as the Bryant siblings come together to attend a wedding-turned-family-reunion. Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune said the play is "highly entertaining…[it] just bursts with life." Through June 7, 2015.
