Red Velvet, Dutch Chocolate, Coffee and Tart. These are some of the flavors that have helped the world of fro-yo burst into popularity. Known for its low calorie count, frozen yogurt flavors (and toppings!) can make for a healthy breakfast meal or even a fairly healthy dessert. Here are a few of LA’s favorite yogurt places.

Why is Twist Frozen Yogurt one of the best in LA? Its iPad stations allow you to lounge and be entertained while you eat. It is so diverse that it even has an assortment of different flavored mochi. And , most importantly, it has a huge variety of flavors that you won’t find everywhere else. Having twelve flavors at a time can be overwhelming, but it ensures that no one will leave empty-handed. It has a lot of room to sit, and one of the best atmospheres out of any yogurt shop I’ve been to, making it more kid friendly. For $.33/ounce, this delicatessen can never disappoint.

It’s a little shop with a large community following. This “place to mix” has one mission: to allow its customers to have a perfect yogurt experience. This is fulfilled by being cheap and delicious. It’s impossible to not try a fruity sorbet, and it’s just plain difficult to avoid the hot sauce toppings. And when one of the feature flavors for the week is Luscious Lemon, Thin Mint, or Graham Crunch, I’m a guaranteed customer for the week. This shop is unique as its toppings not only include the chocolate-iest of candies or fine, farmer’s market fruits, but also fresh cookies and dark-chocolate brownies made by local Palisades bakers. With ten, creamy yogurt flavors always available for choice, this place is sure to satisfy your cravings!

It’s one of the first stores to popularize the brilliant concept – the same tart yogurt that made Pinkberry and Red Mango so great, but done better: it’s self-serve and only $.30/ounce. Yogurtland offers a selection of flavors and toppings to create your own massive bowl of “healthy” dessert. For a tropical twist, try my fave: Lemonade Passion Fruit Tart with kiwis, mango, and coconut. Other flavors include Taro, Pistachio, and Dark Chocolate. Don’t forget the mini-mochis and a gummy worm or two! This place is one of the original, and it’s popular for a reason!

Wait, wait, wait. They always have muffins, a dairy-free flavor, and their own fro-yo pies!? Enough said. It’s obvious why this place has been a renowned staple of Los Angeles for 20 years. They have unique flavors such as macaroon and blueberry, but a local favorite seems to be their creamy Vanilla Custard. If you’re feeling glamorous, Hollywood stars have been spotted here, so you may encounter some paparazzi. This is the place to fulfill your frozen fantasy!

The yogurt here is hard-packed, and softens at the hands of the mixer. Tell your server what flavor yogurt and mix-ins you’re craving, and watch your creation get chopped up and blended right before your eyes. Every day, six new pre-made yogurt flavors are made, though you can always invent your own. Try Mayan Chocolate, Blue Raspberry Pineapple, or Island Strawberry. Only organic fruit and ingredients are used, according to their website. They even have animal crackers, whole Twinkies, and Girl Scout cookies to put on top! Those toppings alone should make any person want to give it a try.

Chicken and waffles has always seemed to be a popular duo, so why not fro-yo and waffles? Toppings prides itself on its range of kosher natural frozen yogurt selections, but it doesn’t limit itself to the dessert. They also serve waffles, iced coffee, and smoothies. Not a bad selection for someone who wants a quick but good breakfast or dessert!
Tutti Frutti4020 Lincoln Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90292 (310) 822-7380 More Info
With an attractive look similar to Twist’s, Tutti Frutti’s colorful walls and fun décor create an inviting atmosphere. Tutti offers its own unique flavors as well; Melon, Papaya, Passion Fruit, creamy Cappuccino and Banana Pudding are some to name. The texture of the yogurt is a bit icier than some of its competitors. It’s a kid friendly place not only because of its flavors, but because of its kiddie corner. So while your kids are playing, indulge yourself in their feature flavors. Price is $.35 per ounce, slightly higher than Yogurtland. Free lot parking.
