Fried chicken is one of the true American comfort foods so it's understandable that sometimes a craving for it can arise. It is also pretty unique because it's crunchy, tender, spicy and savory all at the same time. If you have a craving for great fried chicken, we've found the best ones around Orange County.

If you love fried chicken, but you don't like to eat it off the bone, Nick's is a great place to visit. The buttermilk fried chicken here is a house specialty and is crisp on the outside and tender on the inside - as fried chicken should be. Served with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and a biscuit, the chicken here is a meal you'll definitely find yourself craving over and over again. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, a must is their crispy chicken sandwich, with buttermilk fried chicken, havarti cheese, sweet slaw, almonds, tomatoes, arugula, honey mustard, herb mayonnaise on brioche bun. It's delicious.

You'd expect great fried chicken at a place called Grandma's and that's exactly what you'll get. The chicken is fried to perfection and so delicious that you won't want to let any of it go to waste. Meal options range from two pieces of chicken with potatoes and salad to the party box that contains 24 pieces of chicken. Expect your food to take about 15 minutes to come out of the kitchen though as the cooks are hard at work with your delicious food. A must try at Fullerton's Hopscotch Tavern is under their Sandwich/Burger part of the menu. Their chicken sandwich comes fried, or grilled, but smart orderers will go with the fried version of this sandwich. With arugula, house made pickles, roma tomatoes, shaved red onions and chipotle aioli, it's a definite winner. The restaurant also serves other great fried chicken dishes as well.

Johnny Rebs' serves all of the Southern favorites including fried chicken. Here you have several options to get your fried chicken fix. You can get a small plate with two pieces of crispy chicken, a side (try the collard greens) and a biscuit or hush puppies (the jalapeno hush puppies are amazing). You can also get a meal of the Southern fried chicken, which comes with more pieces, two sides and your choice of bread. Your other option is the boneless chicken-fried chicken that is topped with gravy and served with two sides. No matter which option you choose, you are sure to love the fried chicken here.
