It has long been established that you don’t have to be Irish to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day. All you need is a penchant for a good time and a higher-than-average tolerance for over consumption. It will also help if you are an Orange County resident, or fortunate visitor. The OC goes green and goes big on St. Patrick’s Day. The taverns will be open for business, naturally, though a great number of family events will take center stage. Come out for a parkland stroll, an educational tour and a fun run. OC has all you need in hangover-free family festivities.

For a St. Patrick’s Day tradition involving pageantry and community, rather than blackouts and stained teeth, pay a visit to glorious Hermosa Beach. Classic cars, marching bands, bagpipes and all of the green decor you’ll ever wish to see are on hand. The parade begins at City Hall on Valley Drive, then follows Pier Avenue down to the intersection of Hermosa and 10th Street. Stick around for fine shopping and dining, and hang out at the beach. It’s sure to be a nice day no matter what.

If you are dying for a traditional Irish feast, and who isn’t, San Clemente’s 47th annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance is where you will find it. Gorge on corned beef and cabbage, created and provided by local Carbonara’s Restaurant. Then stay and dance it off. Hosted by the Exchange Club of San Clemente, the event benefits community organizations including Boys & Girls Club and Marine Corp. Community Services. Wear green, eat heartily, dance to your level of ability and support some worthy causes.
