With football working its way back into the fabric of our lives, there is naturally going to be some couch time happening every weekend. However, it's highly recommended that you take some breaks from the television and get the blood pumping. Take a walk, explore, and plan something that will make your time away from your favorite team worthwhile. We live in an incredible city that affords some unique recreational options. Don't worry, you can still wear your jersey, but do not pass up on your chance to make your weekend memorable.

Culminating what is thus far been a record-setting year for Drake with electrifying sold out performances across the nation on his Summer Sixteen tour, join the fun at The Staples Center for his second and final night of his Southern California stop. As has been the case with each major city stop, Drake has enlisted the help of several A-list hip-hop stars to make guest appearances during his set. Earlier this week Drake surprised his faithful with an appearance from none other than Snoop Dogg. One of the rare instances in which a hip-hop show creates the spectacle of a theatrical production, a Drake show is always a sight to see. On Friday night there is no hotter ticket in Los Angeles than seeing Drake perform live at the Staples Center.

While professional football has returned to Los Angeles, the city's collegiate teams have always carried with them a rich legacy rooted in tradition. If ever there was a shrine to college football, surely the Rose Bowl would be considered in that discussion. Even if you root against the Bruins, it's hard to not feel the history that exists in the stands of one of the sports most storied venues. The wall of sound that erupts from the thousands of Bruin fans in attendance is nothing short of awesome. It's officially the start of the college season and if you live in California, the Rose Bowl is one of two places that are a must visit.

Transforming the typically private process of creating art into a much more of a communal, social experience, Redondo Beach will be hosting their annual Chalk Art Festival right along the sunny shore. Now in it's 14th year, this free, family-friendly event is designed to drive traffic to one of the best stretches of California coast. The festival showcases some incredible local talent and gives artists a platform to display their work before an engaged audience. Think of the Chalk Art Festival as an interactive art exhibit where spectators can actually see the working progress. Within walking distance to plenty of cafes, bars, and locally centric shops, the festival is just another excuse to visit the pier.

Belmont Shore Car Show
200 Nieto Ave.
Long Beach, CA 90803
www.belmontshorecarshow.com

For the past 27 years, the Bay City Rodders have organized one of Long Beach's biggest car shows, encompassing the entire stretch of 2nd Street through Belmont Shore. The smaller, albeit passionate community only has some 50 members, but has managed to raise almost $400,000 for local charities with their annual car show. When it comes to show day, expect to see more than 700 automotive works of art, with most coming in at 1974 or older. The customs and hot rods are more than the standard show car, each comes with the kind of story that can only work with an owner that has put their blood, sweat, and tears under the hood. The Belmont Shore Car Show is an outstanding show of community and craftsmanship. Whether you are a gearhead or not, you won't be able to stop staring.
