If you're preparing eggs for yourself at home, chances are you're not going to do anything terribly exotic - and that's fine. After all, you're probably working with what's in your kitchen. If you like eggs, but want something more than the scrambled eggs or omelet you might prepare for yourself at home, you have plenty of good options. Try these places for some of the best egg dishes in Orange County.

Anepalco's is the place to go if you're looking for some egg dishes that you can't find anywhere else. The signature dish here is chilaquiles - available with red sauce, green sauce or mole sauce. You'll also find a couple different omelets here that will be more than enough to fill you up. If you really want something different, try the huevos divorciados. This features eggs, tortillas, ham and bacon. One half is topped with green sauce, and the other is topped with a wonderfully spiced red sauce. Parking is scarce here so be ready to find alternate places to park.

On its brunch menu, Fig & Olive has some egg dishes that are not only delicious, but also unusual. In addition to omelets and quiche Lorraine, this restaurant features poached eggs prepared with salmon, ricotta and avocado, and served on crostone bread. While lots of places have eggs Benedict, this restaurant has the best one - with tomato and spinach served on crab cakes. Similarly, while just about anyone can make scrambled eggs, here you'll find the dish with truffles and Fontina cheese. You've probably never had scrambled eggs like this at home.

When you think about pickled eggs, you probably think about a dubious jar at the end of a bar whose contents have been there for some undetermined amount of time. At Golden Truffle, you'll find that pickled eggs are more than just food for guys to enjoy while they drink beer. The St. Tropez pickled eggs here are generally available on the lunch menu while the pimiento-saffron pickled eggs are available on the dinner menu. You'll also find some variations including one with crab and caviar eggs.

While lots of places have egg dishes for brunch, Haven has one that is truly extraordinary. Featuring duck eggs (yes, duck eggs) served atop shishito peppers and fingerling potatoes, and topped with bell pepper aioli, it's a must try. Brunch here is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday, and features coffee from the Portola Coffee Lab as well as a craft beer on special from 9 to 11 a.m. You'll also find cocktails to help get your day off to an even better start.

Bonjour has a good selection of omelets, which is not unusual for a restaurant. However, while lots of places offer omelets, this place offers omelets made with ingredients ranging from smoked salmon (omelet de pecheur, pictured) to Andouille sausage. You'll also find a variety of scrambled eggs prepared with a range of ingredients from asparagus to smoked salmon. The fact that these scrambled eggs are served on top of brioche makes them even better. Also on the menu are poached eggs that can be accompanied with a few different things.
