Deep-Fried EVERYTHING

A recent fair tradition has been the deep-frying of nearly everything. And this year at the L.A. County Fair, you can certainly get your fair share (pun intended) of deep-friend goodness. New this year to the deep-fried lineup is a Tequila-infused pickle popper, a Dill pickle filled with jalapeno cream cheese then battered and fried. Also new this year is the Funnel cake hot dog which lives up to its name; it is a hot dog dipped in funnel cake batter and deep friend. Think of it as a cross between a typical corn dog and a sweet dessert. Standby favorites including deep-fried Oreos and deep-fried Twinkies will be on hand, as well as the wide assortment of "if-you-can-put-it-on-a-stick-fried-food" options, including odd favorites like the deep fried, peanut butter dill pickle. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

BBQ

BBQ is as much of a fair tradition as fried food, and the variety of BBQ options at the L.A. County Fair this year won't disappoint. For some unique twists on the classic BBQ offerings that you'll find throughout the concession areas, consider trying BBQ Pork Rinds – fresh, fried pork rinds tossed in BBQ seasoning, or the Pig Trough – BBQ pork rinds piled high with pulled pork, ranch beans, and cole slaw (pictured). Cowboy Fries are a perfect pairing of fast food and BBQ. On this plate, you'll find French fries heaped with BBQ Tri Tip and covered in shredded cheese.

Unique Specialty Burgers

Today, burgers and fries are almost as American as Apple Pie. Thanks to the ingenuity of fair-attending Americans, you can now mix together some very interesting ingredients for specialty burgers you won't likely find elsewhere. Juicy's Funnel Cake burger (pictured) is a cheeseburger sandwiched between two funnel cakes instead of bread. The Spicy PB&J Burger features a half-pound Angus Beef Burger patty topped with chunky peanut butter spread, strawberry preserves, and Sriracha bacon spread served on a brioche bun. Talk about a combination!

Country Fair Favorites

Returning to the fair this year are all of your expected favorites including hotdogs, sausages, hamburgers, corndogs, turkey legs and corn on the cob. Sides like French fry towers, onion rings or straws, ice cream, funnel cake, pies, churros, fresh fruit, and Texas Donuts never disappoint the fair-going crowd. Don't miss the Cinnamon Fireball Texas Donut; this giant donut is covered with gooey caramel, layered with sliced banana, topped with whipped cream and sprinkled with cinnamon AND Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey for some spice.

Ethnic Cuisine

If you are looking for something a bit more international, the L.A. County Fair also boasts a smorgasbord of ethnic cuisine to transport you around the world in a single bite. From Pad Thai to kabobs to tacos to chicken prepared half-a dozen different ways, nearly every cuisine of the world is featured in some way.
The Mexican Curly Fries (pictured) combine the tastes of two countries by mixing French Fries and Mexican burritos: topped with beans, jalapenos, and cheese, it is the perfect sharing entrée.

Artisan Eats

For unique food of a different class, consider heading to The Farm, which underwent a large expansion this year. After strolling through rows of fresh, growing produce and vegetables, visit The Farm Kitchen for their Wood-grilled flat bread, prepared in front of you with a variety of toppings harvested directly from LACF's organic farm. The Harvest Table, new for this year, will host Farm to Table dining throughout the year.
