Thanksgiving is a day of celebration for those Americans willing to gather with friends and family for food and drink. But sometimes your friends and family are far away and you just want a cold, stiff drink to give thanks to. Use these bars to either drown your holiday sorrow or to find new things to give thanks for, especially if turkey isn't your favorite meat and mashed potatoes make you sick. Pull up a stool and visit these bars on Turkey Day, and don't forget to say thanks to the designated driver.

This place lives and breathes respect and honor, as soldiers are honored on the daily. Its motif is one of punk rock and rebel country, so give this place a whirl if the average bar is a little too soft for your liking. Putting on a Johnny Cash tune while ordering any of Johnny's zillions of drinks on tap will give you all of the thanks possible from your fellow patrons.

Mutt Lynch's
2300 W. Oceanfront
Newport Beach, CA 92663
(949) 675-1556
www.muttlynchs.comMutt Lynch is a killer beachfront bar and grill with some bodacious burgers and a large beer selection. Schooners run you about a dozen dollars but do the trick. Don't let that tryptophan kick in, as you will need all of your energy to get down just one of the big glasses. If you think Mutt Lynch is being anti-Puritanical about the whole thing, just think about one of those 10,000 gallons of alcohol brought over on the Arabella. While you won't be drinking that much, the friendly staff and excellent scenery will keep you stoked from the first drop until the last. Come early as Mutt's will be open from 7 a.m. until around 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

This will be 601's first time going through the Thanksgiving swing, but its former bar served dinner on Turkey Day.
