Newsflash to the transplants: Los Angeles gets cold. Newcomers never seem to believe it at first but once their blood thins out from the extended summers and early springs, they're freezing just like the rest of the long-term Angelenos. And when those chilly nights arrive, there's nothing better than curling up in front of a crackling fireplace to get warm. Unfortunately for apartment renters those are a rare amenity. But there's still a way to have a cozy night in front of a blazing fire. Granted, you'll have to share it with strangers, but check out these LA bars with the best fireplaces.

Not only does The Griffin have deep-fried tater tots, crispy fried pickles and stiff drinks, but it has two large fireplaces that can accommodate quite a few people. The cozy atmosphere, mood lighting and antique paintings on the wall give this place the perfect swanky dive kinda feel. The patio is another draw for this Los Feliz haunt.

A little medieval, a little speakeasy and a whole lot of charm, The Parlour Room of Hollywood is everything you're looking for in a bar. The front room will draw you in with emerald green quilted leather seating but the back patio with a second bar and fireplace is what you'll want. The ambient fireplace lighting and dark feel makes you want to curl up on the quilted black leather bench and settle in for the night. When you do, make sure you have one of The Parlour's signature cocktails like The Metropolitan or The Parlour Trick.

The Bigfoot Lodge has been a staple of the Atwater Village neighborhood for a good long while now. Upon first entering you might think you've walked into a bar in a B horror film with the woodsy decor and taxidermy critters, but that's part of the charm. Stiff drinks, bingo, trivia and Bigfoot sightings are what locals love about this place. The large brick fireplace is not exactly cozy but it has plenty of seating and room for your cocktails on a chilly night.

Transport yourself to the heart of old time New Orleans by venturing into Sassafras in Hollywood. Live music perched above the crowd, the signature cocktail Sassafras Royale and a big bowl of jambalaya is certain to make this anyone's favorite. But the fireplace gives Sassafras added charm and welcoming warmth on chilly LA nights. Be sure to check out the secret room upstairs and try not to be alarmed by the vintage bathroom facilities. It's been confirmed; everything works properly.

If you're looking for more of an upscale evening and have the means to fund it, then The Roof on Wilshire can deliver. Enjoy a stunning poolside bar with an incredible view of the city lights at every turn. Clean and cozy cabanas provide a semi-private escape when the night gets a little crowded. But the diffused VIP area is the place to be. The glass-walled fire over lava rocks doesn't provide much heat but it is the perfect setting for a romantic evening.
