Sunday is Father's Day, but there's lots of fun activities going on around Los Angeles before the big day. A West Hollywood restaurant celebrates their third anniversary with some special pre-fixe menus on Monday, while the musical "42nd Street" will have you bopping and singing along to some of Broadway's biggest hits. Culver City's Third Wednesday 'Spiked' Lemonade Tastings is back again, giving you a chance to stroll down the street in search of the perfect adult refreshment. Thursday's the day to check out a play that will not only make you laugh, but will impress your friends when you tell them you saw a play based on the works of Chekhov. Father's Day on Sunday is the day to take out that special man in your life for a bright and early breakfast (hash brown buns anyone?), lovely lunch, or a decadent dinner.

Connie's and Ted's story began when they met in 1938 at a volunteer fire department dance, but their legacy lives on with the restaurant inspired by their story, their love for family, and their time spent fishing off the shores of New England. The sleek yet homey seafood joint invites you to celebrate their 3rd year in business with a month of specials. All month long they're offering a three-course menu for both lunch ($25) and dinner ($40). The menu changes daily, but includes signature dishes like the Chef's Choice Oysters, Jo's Wicked Good Chowda' Sampler, a Lobster Roll, Joanne's Fish & Chips, and the Hook Burger. A Blondie and a Whoopie Pie are also on the menu, and a sweet way to end your meal.

If you're into huge dance numbers and fancy footwork, you won't want to miss "42nd Street" at the Pantages Theater. Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, and subsequent 1933 Hollywood film adaptation, the musical is a song and dance fable of Broadway, and the American Dream. When a starry-eyed young dancer leaves her hometown for NY to audition for Pretty Lady, she gets the chance of a lifetime to make it big. The quintessential backstage musical comedy includes some of the greatest Broadway songs ever written, like "I Only Have Eyes For You," "We're In The Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and more. This production of the Tony Award winning show will be directed by co-author Mark Bramble, and choreographed by Randy Skinner. The show ends its run on Sunday, so see it now before it shuffles off to the next town.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is the Tony Award winning play that makes it okay to laugh at middle-aged despair. Vanya and Sonia are siblings who live on their family farm, with the only entertainment in their boring lives courtesy of their house cleaner/personal prophet Cassandra. A sudden break in the monotony comes when their glamorous movie-star sister, Masha, sails into town for a surprise visit, along with her hunky boy toy Spike. After a costume party mishap, and Masha threatening to sell the family home in which the other two live, things come to a head. With characters and themes based on one of the greatest writers of short fiction, Anton Chekhov, the show is as literarily significant as it is hilarious.

Celebrate Father's Day
Various Locations

How about instead of giving dad a coupon book of IOUs for Father's Day, you plan ahead and book a nice meal out. Restaurants around the city are offering deals for dear old dad, like La Dolce Vita, who will host "Steak, Scotch, & a Sports Car," where dads will be greeted with a sports car stationed outside the restaurant, an 8oz. Grilled Wagyu Ribeye, and a flight of whiskey ($80/person). Dads who are watching their waistlines can find plenty of great eats at The Gadarene Swine, which will have a special Father's Day vegan brunch menu for $35/person. But if dad's the carnivorous type, Little Tart Restaurant might be a better bet, where he can score any burger on the menu with fries and any beer for just $12. Herringbone in Santa Monica is serving up a free craft beer with dad's dinner, and what father wouldn't be impressed with the hash brown buns they're making over at The Bellwether for their special breakfast burger. Happy Father's Day!
