Furniture

"The main piece of furniture in your bedroom is your bed. A lot of times, you may not have a budget for a fancy bed frame, but that shouldn't stop you from getting creative! You can use many different things to create a dramatic headboard, and it can be a lot of fun coming up with ideas. Using an old door or a screen trifold partition can create drama and give you the "wow" factor in your room. So don't forget to elevate the height of your room by adding a dramatic headboard."

Bedding

"The opportunity for color, texture and to show off your personal style is all in the bedding. Visit TJMaxx Home Goods or even Target to get bedding with a pop of color to make a statement. If your style is a little more subdued, try getting neutral bedding and accent it with fun and colorful pillows. That way, you can keep your bedding through the season and just change out the pillows for a completely different look."

Lighting

"A crystal chandelier can look expensive, but it doesn't always have to be. If you search online, there are a lot of major retail sites such as Overstock.com that offer really beautiful crystal chandeliers for a very good price. If your style is more DIY, you can search your local thrift stores to find an old chandelier that can be repainted in a funky color to give it new life and a statement in your room. If you don't have electrical wiring in your room to have a chandelier, opt for some really fun lamps. Be bold with your lighting because it can really add a lot of sparkle to the room."

Window Treatments

"Not only are drapes necessary for sleeping in, they also elevate and soften the look of the room. If you have blinds or shutters already, layer on some stationary drapes to frame out your windows and create a lot of drama. Make sure when you hang drapes that you hang them right at the ceiling level or 2 inches lower. This will draw the eye up and make your room feel bigger. Drapes can get expensive, so search online for great deals. Or if you know how to sew, stop by a drapery work room and see if they have any extra fabric. A lot of times, workrooms will have extra fabric that is incredibly expensive that may be thrown out. It's your chance to go in and get something you normally wouldn't have purchased for yourself for a fraction of the price or even better, free!"

Craigslist

"Craigslist is your friend. A lot of model home companies, interior designers, small furniture stores and regular folks all advertise on Craigslist. While I highly suggest being cautious when purchasing from Craigslist (always bring a friend or pepper spray), it has really awesome pieces on there all of the time. It's like buying discount without having to spend time sifting through all of the stuff you don't want. Searching for an item is simple and purchasing is easy."
