College Football Week 6: Washington State At #14 Oregon State

Oregon v Washington State Oregon State v Arizona

Washington State

Oregon State

Mike Leach’s first season has been rough, as the Cougars are now 2-3 with no impressive wins. Washington State only trailed Oregon by four at half last week but proceeded to allow four straight touchdowns. Coaching Who has a more impressive trio of wins than Mike Riley’s team? The Beavers have beat Wisconsin, UCLA, and Arizona, the latter two on the road. Finally favored in a game, Oregon State will try to avoid a letdown.
The nation’s 12th-best passing attack is what fans expected when the Air Raid came to Pullman, though the 85th-ranked total offense is still well below the norm for Leach. Connor Halliday, now the full-time quarterback, couldn’t get much down the field against Oregon and got no help in the running game. Offense The Oregon State offense has finally taken some pressure off the defense, breaking out for 613 yards and 38 points last Saturday, including a long touchdown drive to win the game late.
Oregon will make any defense look ineffective, but let’s not forget Colorado scored 35 on WSU. The Cougars are in the bottom 20 of the country in total defense. Defense There are some doubts about the legitimacy of the Beaver D after Arizona’s performance (545 yards, 35 points), especially considering how bad this unit was last year. It may have another poor statistical showing this week, but this defense is clearly improved from last season.
Washington State’s special teams play has been average across the board. Kicker Andrew Furney is 7 of 9 and has shown he is capable of hitting from deep. Special Teams Oregon State hasn’t had the opportunity to return many kicks and so its special teams play has not played much of a role so far this year.

The winner is

Oregon State v Arizona
Oregon State
2 out of 4

This may be a categorical push, but Oregon State should be able to contain the Cougars and come out with the victory.
