College Football Week 6: Georgia Tech At #15 Clemson

Georgia Tech v Virginia Tech Clemson v Boston College

Georgia Tech

#15 Clemson

Paul Johnson may not be on the hot seat, but Georgia Tech fans are wondering about the direction of the program after a 49-28 loss to Middle Tennessee of the Sun Belt. Johnson’s career record (143-61) speaks for itself, but the Yellow Jackets have some issues. Coaching Clemson had problems with Georgia Tech’s triple option attack last year. We’ll see if Dabo Swinney has his team more prepared for it this season. Every game counts when you have a shot at a BCS bowl.
The offense hasn’t been the problem. Georgia Tech is still a top 25 offense, racking up 329 yards per game on the ground, third best nationally. But the Jackets have lost seven fumbles already, including three against Middle Tennessee. Offense The Tigers are 16th in the country with 510 yards per game. Last week against Boston College, Tajh Boyd threw for 367 yards and the team ran for 209. And all of that was without star receiver Sammy Watkins, who is expected back this Saturday.
Here is where the problem lies. Georgia Tech is giving up nearly 400 yards per game. Middle Tennessee ran wild against the Jackets to the tune of 264 yards, so a matchup with high-flying Clemson is not ideal. Defense The Tigers are giving up their fair share of yards—438 to be exact. Of course that number is skewed by Clemson’s game against Florida State. This unit has greater upside than Georgia Tech’s defense.
Johnson is an aggressive play-caller, so the Jackets have only attempted two field goals (both were successful). Georgia Tech has been solid, though not spectacular, in the return game. Special Teams Clemson has been disappointing in most areas of special teams, but its kicker, Chandler Catanzaro, is 8 for 8 on field goals.

We'll just call it a tie

Georgia Tech v Virginia Tech Clemson v Boston College

Expect Georgia Tech to put up a fight, but Clemson is simply the better all-around team. The Tigers should put up a lot of points at home.
