College Football Week 6: #13 USC At Utah

California v USC Utah v Arizona State

#13 USC

Utah

USC last played Sept. 22, against Cal, when it evened its Pac-12 record at 1-1. Lane Kiffin has to keep his team focused on a conference title. Regardless of his ability to do that, we know the guy can recruit. Coaching This Utah team (2-2) is in serious danger of not winning at least 8 games since 2005, Kyle Whittingham’s first season at the helm. The Utes were blown out in their Pac-12 opener on Step. 22 by Arizona State.
Matt Barkley’s march to the Heisman hit a major road block in Week 3 against Stanford. Against Cal, he took a back seat to the running game, which piled up nearly 300 yards. If the Trojans can be multidimensional, watch out. Offense Utah is one of only nine teams averaging fewer than 300 yards per game. The Utes haven’t been able to establish a ground game.
The Trojans are giving up 17 points per game. Against Cal, the defense was dominant, forcing two turnovers and keeping the Bears out of the end zone. Defense The Utes’ defense has been average at best, which doesn’t bode well against the Trojans. Utah has only forced six turnovers.
Andre Heidari hit two 40-yard field goals last time out. USC is in the top 30 nationally in punting, as well as in punt and kick return yardage. Special Teams Kicker Coleman Petersen is 3 for 6 on field goal tries and the Utes haven’t done much in the return game.

The winner is

California v USC
#13 USC
4 out of 4

The Trojans visit Salt Lake City for the first time since 1917. Utah will be fired up, so Thursday’s game should be closer than that 51-0 USC victory, but the Utes don’t seem to have the firepower to pull off the upset.
